The feedback from the scoresheets for WEEK 21 was as follows:
SCORES:
Winners:
8: Carleton Grangers, Flanagan’s Army, Lofthouse Lions
7: Golden Lion Dudes, Olde Tavern Allsorts, Olde Taverners
Non-winners:
7: Kippax British Legion, Kippax Legionnaires, The Vic
6: Featherstone Phoenix
5: The Other Team
COMMENTS:
Golden Lion Dudes: First half of the quiz seemed very difficult.
The Other Team: Varied topics but tough questions.
Olde Taverners: Interesting rounds, a couple of odd questions (Parkrun) and a couple of errors (Grand Theft Auto V and The Secret History).
[Parkrun was the answer to an individual question which actually contained the words ‘park’ and ‘run’. It is specifically the fifth Grand Theft Auto that is among the top 3 best-selling games. And The Secret History (not The Secret Life) was the Donna Tartt novel.]
Carleton Grangers (v King’s Arms): Very good quiz. Great opponents.
The Vic: Mixed bunch randomly.
Featherstone Phoenix: Decent.
Another error I’ve only just discovered is that Charlemagne died and was buried in Aachen, but wasn’t necessarily born there (as one question stated) as his birthplace is unknown.
STATISTICS:
There were no comments about the balance, although (from a quick look at a couple of matches) it might have favoured ‘A’ a little (and 4 of the 6 questions mentioned below were ‘B’ questions).
Answers not got by anyone in the FTQL were:
Usborne (Highest Falklands peak)
Papua New Guinea (Mount Wilhelm is highest peak)
The above were the A5 and B5 questions in the Mountains round.
Answers not got in the Lofthouse/The Vic match, but got elsewhere by the teams listed, were:
Botswana (Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor’s second wedding): Carleton, Allsorts
Arkan (Serbain warlord Zeljco Raznatovic’s pseudonym): Olde Taverners, Flanagan’s
Donna Tartt (Decade-apart novels The Secret Life (sic – see above) and The Little Friend): King’s Arms, Kippax Legionnaires
Minnie Mouse (mentioned in 10cc’s Life is a Minestrone): King’s Arms, Flanagan’s, Kippax British Legion
