Tonight (23/09) we held our annual charity night at the Golden Lion Ferrybridge. Many thanks to the pub and staff for looking after us and putting on a splendid buffet.
As usual, the evening consisted of a quiz supplied by Chairman, Dave Bill, however unfortunately the Covid got to him and he was unable to attend so you ended up with the second (third, fourth, fifth etc) choice reader - me, Ian! A night of poor pronunciation ensued but we got there in the end with the winning team of Mike Steer and Lee Warburton coming out on top with an impressive 54 out of 60. More impressive still was how Dave managed to create a quiz with 60 questions, all with a common link of people called David. The biggest groan was when the question about 'If you had some cuts of cured pork, belonging to a Disney Pixar animated cleaning robot, what would you have?' - (David) Wall-E Hams...amazing quiz writing there.
As always, the night was to launch the new season and to make a few quid to donate to a charity. This year we decided to give the money (£85) to Macmillan as there are a few people close to the quiz league who are currently suffering with cancer and the little gesture seemed fitting. Get well soon to everyone.
Thanks to everyone for coming along, supplying the raffle prizes (Dave R's guitar was the pick of the prizes - gutted I didn't see it first) and for launching the new season in style.
Good luck to all teams, the real work starts next week.
