Benny Ward: 1955 - 2025

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all of the passing of Five Towns' Quiz League's long-serving player, Benny Ward, who sadly lost his battle yesterday, 15th November 2025.

Benny has been playing in the league for many years and most recently for the Kippax British Legion team. Born in Liverpool in 1955, he was a massive Everton fan and I'm sure many of you would have had an interaction with him over the years about his beloved team.

I've only known Benny for a few years but what I remember most about him was his humour and warmth and always up for a chat when playing against his team. He was never short of a word to say but I always found him to play in the right spirit and with a smile.

Benny passed at St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds yesterday evening just before 11pm. Many of you may have been aware of his illness over the past few months which has limited his playing time this season.

On behalf of the Committee and the rest of the FTQL, my heartfelt condolences to Benny's family, friends and teammates on their loss and our thoughts are with them at this tough time.
